I was talking to a woman the other day and she was telling me that she was having a bad day. In fact she said that she was having a bad month and everything seemed to be bringing her down for some unexplainable reason.
She didn’t like the thought of winter coming. And she didn’t want to think about Christmas at all because that meant more work to add to her already busy life.
She went on to tell me about this and that and the many other things that gave her a reason to complain. And then I asked her to take a little break from all of the bad things and to imagine herself going back in time and remembering some of the things that used to make her happy.
Well there were many of course but the one thing that seemed to be one of her happiest memories was that she used to love polka dots as a little girl. She had loved to wear polka dot dresses, and polka dot shoes. Her mother had painted her room full of polka dots and had bought her a red polka dot blanket.
And the most fun she ever had was doing the polka dot dance with her Mom and little sister.
And as she laughed about her fun filled memories, I told her that some times in life we have to go back and find our old polka dot memories because they sure can be a very good thing.
